Zsolnay RABBIT FIGURINE with salad _ 1487
Zsolnay RABBIT FIGURINE with salad _ 1487
This hand-painted rabbit figurine was produced at the renowned Zsolnay Porcelain Manufactory in Pécs. Each piece is individually painted, making every example slightly different in tone, brushwork, and expression - a reflection of true handcraft rather than mechanical repetition.
Founded in 1853, the Zsolnay factory became one of Hungary’s most celebrated ceramic manufacturers, internationally recognized for its technical innovation and artistic excellence. While famous for its architectural ceramics and eosin glazes, Zsolnay also developed a strong tradition of hand-painted figurines and decorative objects, especially throughout the late 19th and 20th centuries. These smaller sculptural works combined skilled modelling with detailed brush decoration, maintaining high artistic standards even in series production.
The “salad bunny” form reflects Zsolnay’s playful yet refined approach to figurative ceramics. The hand-painted surface gives each rabbit its own subtle personality, ensuring no two pieces are entirely identical.
A charming and collectible example of Hungarian porcelain heritage, handcrafted in Pécs, rooted in one of Central Europe’s most distinguished ceramic traditions.
