Zodiac FLOOR VASE

Zodiac FLOOR VASE

Zodiac Floor Vase designed by László Zahajszky and produced by the Gránit Factory in Kispest, Hungary, ca. 1970s.
This large, dark brown ceramic vase was designed by László Zahajszky, considered Hungary’s first industrial designer in the silicate industry. Zahajszky spent his entire career at the Gránit Factory - one of the largest ceramic manufacturers in Europe, where he became head designer by the 1950s. His work is known for its subtle Art Deco and archaic influences, often referencing Etruscan and Celtic forms.
Gránit specialized in mass-produced tableware and sanitary ceramics, offering affordable alternatives to Zsolnay. Despite this, Zahajszky's designs stand out for their formal restraint and timeless character. The "Zodiac" floor vase is a rare example of his more sculptural, expressive work, created during a period of quiet innovation in Hungary's applied arts scene.
