White Hollóháza RABBIT FIGURINE _ 1476
White Hollóháza RABBIT FIGURINE _ 1476
This unpainted porcelain rabbit figurine from the Hollóháza Porcelain Factory depicts two rabbits seated together on a square base. Unlike the factory’s typical hand-painted versions, this example remains in its pure white state, without decorative overglaze - allowing the sculptural form and modeling details to take center stage.
Founded in 1777, Hollóháza is one of Hungary’s oldest porcelain manufactories. Originally established as a glassworks in the Zemplén region, it later transitioned into porcelain production in the 19th century. Throughout the 20th century, Hollóháza became known for producing both everyday tableware and decorative figurines, often hand-painted in traditional or folk-inspired motifs. Its figurine line, especially animal forms, played an important role in Hungarian domestic interiors during the socialist era.
Unpainted examples are less common and offer insight into the production stages before decoration. In this state, the clarity of the porcelain body and the sculpted details of the rabbits - posture, ears, and surface texture - become more visible and refined.
The piece shows minor chips consistent with age and vintage condition, adding authenticity to its history.
A rare and expressive example from Hungary’s long-standing porcelain tradition - sculptural, and rooted in domestic heritage.
