Tall burnt red VASE by Pesthidegkút Ceramics Factory _ 987
This large burnished-red vase from the Pesthidegkút Ceramics Factory, designed by Margit Csizmadia, represents one of the manufactory’s most recognizable and characterful surface techniques. The sponge-applied black patterning - always irregular, always unique - gives each piece its own identity, transforming the vivid red base glaze into a dynamic, almost textile-like field of texture and shadow. No two vases were ever alike.
The form itself is calm and intentional: a clean silhouette that widens upward, then gathers slightly at the neck into a refined rim. This balance between sculptural clarity and expressive surface decoration is characteristic of Csizmadia’s work at Pesthidegkút, an approach that merges everyday utility with bold, artistic presence.
A striking, unmistakably Hungarian ceramic object, it stands as both a collectible piece of mid-century design heritage and an impressive standalone vessel for contemporary interiors.
