Set of four corn TUMBLERS _ 536
Set of four corn TUMBLERS _ 536
This set of faience tumblers, inspired by a traditional corn-kernel motif, comes from the pottery village of Magyarszombatfa, a place where craft and cultural memory are deeply interwoven. The raised corn-like texture is more than ornament, it is a tactile link to the agricultural rhythms and communal meals that shaped rural Hungarian life.
The piece also reflects the heritage of the Magyarszombatfa Kerámia Factory, whose story is inseparable from the families that sustained it. The Zsohár and Czúgh families, among others, laid the foundation for the manufactory, preserving and passing down knowledge across generations. The factory reached its height before and during the Kádár era, producing not only household and decorative wares but also stove tiles and lamp shades, many of which were sold both in Hungary and on the world market.
Today, the surviving objects stand as both functional vessels, pitchers or tumblers and cultural documents: expressive of a local craft tradition, yet resonant far beyond its region. Preserved through Finecut, they remain living elements of Hungarian design heritage.
