Porcelain BOWL with kenzan needle _ 1385
This 2018 exhibition bowl by Ferenc Halmos is an expressive chamotte porcelain work inspired by natural shell formations and coastal landscapes. Its elongated, deeply grooved body feels almost geological - shaped by erosion, tide, and time.
The lightly lustrous turquoise glaze settles into the carved channels and highlights the raised ridges, enhancing the tactile depth of the surface. The chamotte-rich porcelain body adds structural strength and a subtle mineral texture, reinforcing the connection to stone and sediment.
A kenzan needle insert is discreetly positioned within the bowl, allowing it to function as an ikebana vessel while maintaining its sculptural autonomy. The balance between utility and abstraction reflects Halmos’ broader artistic philosophy: simple, clean forms animated by complex glaze chemistry and material experimentation.
As an independent ceramist since 1989, and a former production engineer and university lecturer in ceramic technology, Halmos approaches clay with both scientific discipline and playful curiosity. These exhibition pieces are rare departures from his crystalline porcelain works, yet they retain his signature commitment to technical precision and surface exploration.
Each bowl is entirely unique - a singular convergence of porcelain, texture, light, and nature-inspired form.
