Porcelain BOWL _ 1383

Porcelain BOWL _ 1383

This one-of-a-kind chamotte porcelain bowl by Ferenc Halmos was created around 2018 for exhibition purposes, making it an exceptionally rare studio piece. Its form unfolds in deep, sculptural grooves that echo the movement of shells, wind-carved stone, or eroded coastal surfaces. The silhouette feels organic and elemental - as if shaped by natural forces rather than the hand alone.
Crafted from chamotte-rich porcelain, the surface carries a tactile, mineral texture. The glaze, subtly glossy rather than fully matte, softens the rugged relief and catches the light gently across the ridges. The pale turquoise tone enhances the maritime, shell-like impression while preserving a grounded, earthy presence.
Ferenc Halmos (b. 1950s) is one of Hungary’s most technically accomplished ceramic artists. Originally trained as a chemical engineer with a PhD in petrochemistry, he has worked in ceramics since 1978 and has been an independent studio ceramist since 1989. Known internationally for his crystalline glazes and experimental surface techniques, Halmos continuously explores the chemistry of glazes while maintaining a preference for clean, essential forms.
This bowl represents the sculptural side of his practice - where material, texture, and nature-inspired form merge into a powerful yet restrained ceramic object.
