Mária Hadamcsik VASE _ 1461

Mária Hadamcsik VASE _ 1461

This rectangular vase by Mária Hadamcsik (b. 1936) reflects the material-driven, experimental language of postwar Hungarian studio ceramics.
The narrow, elongated form is structured yet tactile, with raised elements emerging across the surface. The dark turquoise matte glaze, enriched with chamotte (grog), creates a rough, granular texture that emphasizes the physicality of the clay.
Hadamcsik is considered one of the notable Hungarian ceramic artists of the postwar period, known for her distinctive lava-like glazes and reduced, sculptural forms, where surface becomes a primary expressive element.
Dated 1964, this piece belongs to an early and important phase of her practice, where form and texture are tightly connected.
A strong, architectural object - raw, tactile, and grounded in material exploration.
