Lívia Gorka SPICE CONTAINER _ 1457
This early spice container by Lívia Gorka (1925-2011) dates from around the 1950s and reflects her connection to Hungarian folk traditions at the beginning of her career.
The form is simple and functional, shaped with clarity and restraint, while carrying subtle references to vernacular ceramic objects. At this stage, Gorka was still working closer to applied arts and domestic use, before fully moving toward autonomous, sculptural ceramics.
Even in this more traditional object, her sensitivity to proportion and material is already present.
A rare early piece - linking folk inspiration with the emerging voice of one of Hungary’s most important ceramic artists.
