Lehoczkyné FLOOR VASE _ 1391
Lehoczkyné FLOOR VASE _ 1391
This large turquoise floor vase is attributed to Lehoczkyné, the wife of the director of the Hódmezővásárhely Majolica Factory, one of Hungary’s key ceramic centers in the 20th century. The piece reflects a close connection to the factory’s artistic environment, where personal authorship and institutional production often overlapped.
The form is tall and grounded, with a strong vertical silhouette. Its surface is defined by horizontal ribbing, creating a rhythmic structure that wraps around the body. The turquoise glaze settles into these grooves, enhancing depth and giving the vase a subtle movement as light shifts across it.
Hódmezővásárhely became an important hub of Hungarian ceramics, where folk traditions were reinterpreted through modern forms and glaze experimentation. Objects connected to the factory often embody this balance - functional yet expressive, rooted in tradition yet shaped by mid-century design thinking.
A bold floor-standing object - architectural in form, tactile in surface, and deeply connected to Hungarian ceramic heritage.
