István Gádor VASE _ 1459
István Gádor VASE _ 1459
This anthropomorphic vase by István Gádor (1891-1984) takes on a subtly human, female-like presence, where the body of the vessel suggests a standing figure.
The surface is finished in a soft, silky turquoise glaze, enhancing the organic curves and giving the piece a calm, almost skin-like quality. The form remains simplified and abstract, avoiding literal depiction while retaining a strong figurative reference.
Gádor, one of the key pioneers of modern Hungarian ceramics, developed a language where ceramic objects often approach sculpture, merging functional form with symbolic presence.
This piece embodies that transition - a vessel that reads as both object and figure.
