About the Gránit Porcelain and Stone Dish Factory of Kispest
'The origins of the company can be tracked back to 1920 when glazed earthenware production started up in a workshop belonging to a brick factory in Kispest. In 1924, a new factory has started up to produce sanitary ware, hollowware and decorative ceramics such as vases, jardinieres and figurines. The factory was modernised in the 1930’s and become one of the biggest ceramic producers in Europe. It was restructured in 1950, ceased to make sanitary ware but adding the production of grindstones. As the demand grew at home and other Socialist countries, the Gránit Factory introduced new products such as tableware and decorative objects. In the 1960’s, a new generation of designers brought out new forms and colours. In 1990, the factory was restructured and privatised. In 2002 it ceased all activities.'
