Géza Gorka teal ram - Iparművészeti Vállalat Edition _ 1272

Géza Gorka teal ram - Iparművészeti Vállalat Edition _ 1272

This medium teal ram form was designed by Géza Gorka and produced in series by the Iparművészeti Vállalat (Applied Arts Company) in Hungary. Although manufactured in multiples, each piece retains subtle variations due to the hand-finishing and glaze application process, no two examples are entirely identical. The Ram bowls are existing in two scales, this bigger one and a slightly smaller one.
The body is covered in a textured, three-dimensional teal glaze, rich and tactile, while the interior is finished in a contrasting graphite glaze that adds depth and visual weight. The sculptural ram form reflects Gorka’s lifelong engagement with animal motifs, simplified yet expressive, balancing folk tradition and modern ceramic language.
Géza Gorka (1894-1971) was one of the most influential Hungarian ceramic artists of the 20th century. His work bridged studio craftsmanship and state-supported applied arts production, bringing artistic ceramic design into broader public circulation. This piece embodies that synthesis, collectible and deeply rooted in Hungary’s postwar applied arts heritage - sculptural objects that function equally as bowls or decorative ceramic forms.
