Géza Gorka Seal VASE - Iparművészeti Vállalat Edition _ 1315
This ceramic vase, designed by Géza Gorka and produced by the Iparművészeti Vállalat, takes the form of a stylized animal - a seal - interpreted through a strongly abstracted, modern lens.
Rather than literal depiction, the form is reduced to soft, flowing volumes, where the animal reference becomes almost symbolic. The rounded, compact body and subtle opening transform the piece into a sculptural object that balances between vessel and figure.
Finished in a greenish-teal glaze, the surface enhances the organic character of the form, with gentle tonal variations that give depth and movement. This approach reflects Gorka’s ability to merge natural inspiration with modern ceramic language.
Géza Gorka (1894-1971) was a key figure in Hungarian ceramics, known for integrating artistic experimentation into objects intended for everyday life. Through the Iparművészeti Vállalat, his designs became widely accessible while retaining their expressive quality.
This example shows signs of wear and minor damage consistent with its age, contributing to its authenticity and history as a lived object.
