Géza Gorka Losonczi Crab PLATE _ 1323
Géza Gorka Losonczi Crab PLATE _ 1323
This ceramic bowl, designed by Géza Gorka and produced by the Iparművészeti Vállalat, features a distinctive variation of the Losonczi pattern - here interpreted through a stylized crab motif.
The interior unfolds in layered shades of green and teal, enriched by a dynamic glaze surface, while the crab design appears in a contrasting graphite tone. The exterior remains grounded in a darker graphite glaze, creating a strong visual frame for the more expressive interior.
Géza Gorka (1894-1971) was a defining figure of Hungarian ceramics, known for translating natural and folkloric motifs into a modern, accessible language. Through the Iparművészeti Vállalat, his designs entered everyday life while maintaining artistic integrity - each piece still bearing subtle variations due to hand-finishing and firing.
Some examples carry a jury label (e.g. 110022), reflecting the official system of design evaluation and quality control of the period.
Sixteen pieces are available within the Finecut collection, also offered for rental, making them suitable for both use and curated settings.
A characterful and collectible object: expressive, tactile, and deeply rooted in Hungary’s postwar applied arts heritage.
